Schleiffen Plan

A plan drawn up by the German General Von Schleiffen in 1905 that proposed Germany invading France via Belgium in the event of a Russian attack on Germany.

Schism

To cause a breach or division within a religion.

Saxon

A descendant of the Germanic tribes people who lived in northern Germany and invaded and conquered England in the fifth century and sixth centuries with the Angles and Jutes.

Sack

To attack, raid, loot and pillage a village, town or city.

A sudden or momentous change in a situation. Often the overthrow of a government.

Retreat

To move away from an attack.

Restoration

Name given to the restoring of the monarchy in 1660 which followed an 11 year interregnum when Oliver Cromwell assumed the title Lord Protector

Reservation

Enclosed area of land allocated to the Native American Indians by the US government.

Relic

An object or piece of an object that has survived from the past.
