Federation

A political entity made up of a number of individual states.

Exile

To live away from one's country either through choice or force.

Excommunicate

To cut off from the church. To deprive of the right of church membership by ecclesiastical authority.

Exchequer

The government department responsible for finance.

Enemy

An individual, group or nation that feels hatred towards, intends harm to or opposes another individual, group or nation.

Empire

An extensive area of land or countries ruled over by one person or nation - e.g The British Empire.

Emigrate

To leave one country or region and settle in another.

Economy

Term applied to the amount of trade, production of goods or money.

Ecclesiastical Court

Church courts of law that try matters relating to spiritual or religious matters. These courts were very powerful in the middle ages.
