Referencing the Internet

There is such a wealth of information on the Internet that it is possible to find information on almost any subject. For students this means that information needed for homework or assignments is relatively accessible. However, information used is often required to be referenced and included in a bibliography.

The correct method for citing Internet sources is still under debate but the following method of referencing seems to be the one that is emerging as the most acceptable:

1. Give the title of the page or document, either underlined or in italics.
2. The author of the page, if available.
3. The date the page was written, in round brackets.
4. The exact URL (uniform resource locator) - http://www....
5. The date the site was visited, in square brackets.
